*Antonia Mendez was an ancestor of Pedro Mendez, who in 1821 out of Los Angeles, California was co-petitioner for the tract of land known as Ricon de los Bueyes. The land in question eventually became Culver City, California and the original homestead still stands. The grant has been passed down to us thru the generations and had been signed by then President Ullyses S. Grant. Antonia Mendez is Melanie's paternal grandmother.
